Canon Tim Madeley

Canon Tim was born in Brighton, baptised in St. Pancras Church, Lewes and educated in the Diocesan Catholic Schools system in Lewes, Horsham, Ifield and Crawley. He began his training for the priesthood at St. John’s Seminary, Wonersh in 1987 and was ordained to the Diaconate by Bishop Crispian Hollis in the Seminary in 1993. He served his Diaconate in St. Joseph’s, Redhill until his ordination to the priesthood in April 1994 at St. John the Evangelist, Horsham by Bishop (later Cardinal) Cormac Murphy O’Connor.

Canon Tim was appointed immediately to Our Lady of Ransom, Eastbourne on a temporary basis until this was made permanent later that summer. He stayed at Eastbourne until his appointment to St. Francis and St. Anthony, Crawley in September 1998. During the next seven years, as part of a developing clergy team, Canon Tim saw the amalgamation of four parishes (seven churches) into one new parish with the clergy living and working from one central parish house.

He was appointed Dean of Arundel Cathedral in 2005 and arrived in mid-September. He was installed as a Canon of the Chapter of Arundel Cathedral on 26th February 2008.

In 2009 Canon Tim was installed as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem at St. George’s Cathedral, Southwark. Later he was elected as a member of The Old Brotherhood of the English Secular Clergy. He celebrated the 25th Anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood on 30th April 2019.
