Cathedral Family Mass Music Group

Preparation of the Liturgy at the 9.30am Sunday Mass is done with great care and attention to the instructions laid down by the Church and in particular to the recommendations of the Second Vatican Council, which states that there should be full active participation by the faithful.
On the first Sunday of each month the Cathedral Family Mass Music Group leads the people in worship at the 9.30am Mass.
On other Sundays the congregation is encouraged to join in as much as possible.
If you can sing and really enjoy singing your heart out, or indeed play a musical instrument to your heart’s content, please join our small, informal and friendly group of music lovers!
We welcome anyone at whatever age to sing a mixed variety of hymns, psalms and chants.
Rehearsals take place in the Cathedral at 7.15pm on the Wednesday prior to the appointed Sunday.
Share all these values by joining our music group.
If you want more information or to join us please telephone Monica Clifton on 01903 882968 or email monica.clifton@btinternet.com.
On Sundays at the 9.30am Mass in term time there is a Children’s Liturgy Group.
A quote from the Second Vatican Council Document:

“One cannot find anything more religious and more joyful in sacred celebrations than a whole congregation expressing its faith and devotion in song. Therefore the active participation of the whole people, which is shown in singing, is to be carefully promoted.”

And again:

“By way of promoting active participation, the people should be encouraged to take part by means of acclamations, responses, psalmody, antiphons, and songs, as well as by actions, gestures and bodily attitudes.”
