Liturgy of the Word with Children
“Sometimes, moreover, if the place itself and the nature of the individuals permit, it possibly will be appropriate to celebrate the liturgy of the word, including a homily, with the children in a separate, but not too distant, location. Then, before the eucharistic liturgy begins, the children are led to the place where the adults have meanwhile celebrated their own liturgy of the word.”
Directory for Masses with Children, 17
We are delighted that Liturgy of the Word for Children will resume at the 9.15am Mass from Sunday 4th September and will take place on the 1st Sunday of each month.
The sessions take place in the Sacristy, leaving the main body of the church after the sign of the cross and welcome.
The adult leaders help the children to listen to the Gospel, pray, sing and take part in activities that explore the readings of the day in a fun and engaging way. The material used is aimed at children up to First Communion age (7-8 years).
Parents are welcome to come out to the sessions with their children, but if your child is confident and would like to come out without a parent, please ensure that you have completed a Parental Consent Form, available from the Cathedral Office arundel@abdiocese.org.uk (or download the form HERE)
Thank you to the parishioners who volunteer to prepare and lead this for the children of our parish. The team is a bit depleted following the pandemic, if you think this is something you could get involved with, please speak to Canon David or Emer Osborne (or contact the Cathedral Office)

Let the little children come to me, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. (Matthew 19:14)
