Liturgy of the Word with Children
“Sometimes, moreover, if the place itself and the nature of the individuals permit, it possibly will be appropriate to celebrate the liturgy of the word, including a homily, with the children in a separate, but not too distant, location. Then, before the eucharistic liturgy begins, the children are led to the place where the adults have meanwhile celebrated their own liturgy of the word.”
Directory for Masses with Children, 17
Liturgy of the Word for Children takes place at the 5.00pm Saturday Vigil Mass at the Cathedral in term time on two Sundays of the month. See the weekly newsletter for dates.
The sessions take place in the Sacristy, leaving the main body of the church after the sign of the cross and welcome.
The adult leaders help the children to listen to the Gospel, pray, sing and take part in activities that explore the readings of the day in a fun and engaging way. The material used is aimed at children up to First Communion age (7-8 years).
Parents are welcome to come out to the sessions with their children, but if your child is confident and would like to come out without a parent, please ensure that you have completed a Parental Consent Form, available from the Cathedral Office arundel@abdiocese.org.uk (or download the form HERE)
Thank you to the parishioners who volunteer to prepare and lead this for the children of our parish. The team are always looking for new volunteers. If this is an area of Parish Life that you would like to volunteer for, please speak to Fr Stephen or one of the leaders, or contact the Cathedral Office. Please note you will need to have a DBS check to undertake a role with children.
